Monsoon to reach Tamilnadu tomorrow

Chennai: Monsoon is likely to advance into remaining parts of south Arabian Sea, some parts of central Arabian Sea, and the remaining parts of Kerala, Tamilnadu and Lakshadweep by Saturday, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD).

It is likely to cover some more parts of Tamilnadu and Puducherry, some parts of coastal and south interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema, and some more parts of south and Central Bay of Bengal today and tomorrow.

Parts of Coimbatore along the Western Ghats, including catchment areas of many dams in the district, may receive rainfall on 9 June, according to experts. A low-pressure area is expected to form over the Bay of Bengal.

According to Tamilnadu Agricultural University’s agro climate research centre Director S P Ramanathan, the district may not receive widespread rainfall over the next couple of days as it is being in the rain shadow region. “The monsoon will intensify only later this month,” he added.
