Stalin explains why govt decided to open TASMAC

Chennai: Chief Minister M K Stalin today said it was decided to reopen TASMAC liquor shops from Monday because of the coming down of Covid-19 cases in Tamilnadu.

“TASMAC outlets are to be opened only in those districts where there are fewer infections,” he said.

The Chief Minister’s comments have come as an apparent response to criticism to the government’s decision to reopen liquor shops as part of the lockdown relaxations which would come into effect from Monday.

PMK founder S Ramadoss on Friday strongly condemned the State government’s decision to allow the opening of Tasmac shops.

In a Twitter post, he said the decision goes against the interest of the people and would lead to spread of Covid-19, at a time when the State is showing a declining trend in the number of cases.
