Chennai: Daily coronavirus cases in Tamilnadu declined to less than 4,000 to 3,867 (4,013 on Saturday) to take the total number of infections in the State to 24,96,287.
In a day 4,382 people were discharged after treatment, taking the total figure to 24,27,988. Seventy-two people died of the infection, taking the toll to 33,005.
According to the government’s official bulletin, Coimbatore recorded the highest number of cases — 445, followed by Erode, which recorded 349 cases.
Chennai reported 222 cases on Sunday, while neighbouring districts Tiruvallur (127), Chengalpet (184), and Kancheepuram (58) together reported 369 cases.
As on date, the capital city has recorded 5,33,432 cases – 21.3 per cent of the total positive cases in the state. The death toll in Chennai as on Sunday was 8,222.
As many as 18 of the 72 deaths took place in private hospitals and 54 in government facilities. Fifteen of the deceased had no co-morbidities.
