Chennai: Citizens in Chennai woke up to cloudy skies as parts of the city received light showers early today morning.
The city had received light to moderate showers accompanied by thunderstorms on Thursday night as well.
As per weather officials, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall activity is possible over Tamilnadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka and Kerala from 9 to 12 July.
Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Theni, Dindigul, Kanyakumari, Pudukottai and Sivaganga districts are likely to receive heavy rains.
The rough conditions will also boost the prevalence of thunderstorms with lightning and strong surface winds blowing at the speed of 40-50 kmph over the region.
The IMD has issued an orange alert over Kerala, south interior Karnataka and coastal Karnataka. This level of advisory recommends people to ‘be prepared’ for wet weather conditions.
On the other hand, Tamilnadu, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Telangana and north interior Karnataka have been placed under a yellow watch. The advisory urges residents to ‘be aware’ of the local weather situation.
