Chennai: Even as Tamilnadu recorded 1,891 new cases of Covid-19, the daily count, after weeks, fell below 200 in Coimbatore and under 100 in Thanjavur and Tiruppur.
Recoveries eclipsed new Covid infections with 2,475 patients getting discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours, aggregating to 24,81,201. The number of fatalities climbed to 33,838 with 29 more people succumbing to the virus.
“We are inching close to 2 crore vaccinations doses in the state. We should have enough vaccines for the next two to three days,” said Health Minister Ma Subramanian.
Ten districts reported fewer than 20 cases each. Perambalur reported 11 new cases – the lowest- followed by 12 each in Ramanathapuram and Tenkasi.
Chennai added 133 new cases, taking the total infection count to 5,36,756 while the toll mounted to 8,305 in the State capital.
In the last 24 hours, 1,41,248 samples were tested, taking the total figure to 3,59,68,166. A total of 3,51,02,736 people have been tested so far.
