Chennai: In a sudden development, a delegation of AIADMK leaders will be meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi today to discuss a host of issues concerning Tamilnadu, including Karnataka’s move to go ahead with the Mekedatu dam issue.
While AIADMK coordinator O Panneerselvam left for New Delhi last afternoon from Chennai, AIADMK joint coordinator and Leader of the Opposition Edappadi K Palaniswmi left for the National Capital from Coimbatore last night.
Surces said Palaniswami, who was staying in his native Salem district, reached Coimbatore by road and took flight to Delhi.
Meanwhile, senior leaders, including former Ministers P Thangamani and S P Velumani left last evening for Delhi from Chennai and join the two former Chief Ministers.
Apart from meeting Modi, the AIADMK leaders are also likely to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Though the exact agenda of their Delhi visit was not disclosed, reports said that they were likely to discuss the prevailing political situation in the State and the Mekedatu dam issue with Karnataka.
Another version has it that the AIADMK leaders have been invited for the house warming function of Panneerselvam’s son and Theni Lok Sabha MP P Raveendranath Kumar, who has been allotted a MP house for his stay in New Delhi.
Till date, reports said that, Raveendranth has been staying in a private hotel or in Tamilnadu House during his Delhi visits and now the Centre has allotted a House for the MP.
The leaders would be utilising this opporunity to make a courtesy call to Modi and Amit Shah and take up issues concerning the State.
