Chennai: India’s premier rail coach making unit Integral Coach Factory (ICF) at Perambur in the city, will not be privatised.
An assurance to this effect was given to MDMK general secretary and Rajya Sabha MP Vaiko who along with Erode Lok Sabha MP A Ganesamoorthy, met Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Saturday.
In a statement here, Vaiko said Ashwini Vaishnaw has assured him that the ICF at Perambur in Chennai will not be privatised.
During the meeting, Vaiko informed the Railway Minister that there were reports and fear among the employees of ICF that it would be privatised.
Pointing out that ICF was one of the most profitable public sector enterprises in the country, Vaiko said, “if ICF is privatised, it will lead to retrenchment and thousands of employees will lose their jobs.”
Hence, ICF should not be privatised for any reason, Vaiko told the Minister, the release said.
After accepting Vaiko’s views, the Minister assured that the ICF will not be privatised.
