Chennai: Radhikka Shastry, who runs a café in Coonoor in The Nilgiris, pooled in money through crowdfunding to customise six load vehicles into ambulances with facilities, including stretchers, oxygen cylinders, fire extinguishers and fans.
The auto ambulances have been designed in such a way as to reach hilly areas where the normal government-run ambulances are unable to reach. With the ability to travel across narrow path and aid the sick people to get timely treatment, this new service is indeed a blessing in disguise.
“Radhika Shastri of Nilgiris in Tamilnadu provides transport to those who are ill through the AmbuRX service that she has set up. Such examples show we can do social work while pursuing other work,” Modi said.
Happy about the PM’s praise, Radhikka said, “I never, even in my wildest dream, did I think of receiving an appreciation from the Prime Minister. My phone has been ringing continuously since morning with calls of appreciation. I am very excited.”
Following the acknowledgement of the Prime Minister, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L Murugan spoke to Radhikka Shastry over the phone and congratulated her. Later, in a tweet, Murugan said this compassionate gesture by her in Nilgiris will motivate others and also improve health facilities in the region.
