Chennai: Doctors under the supervision of medical director and chief cardiologist Dr Su Thillai Vallal, Venkataeswara Hospitals, Nandanam, successfully treated a 45-year-old man with a novel cardiac surgery.
The man had suffered polio when he was a child and had been living with deformity of his leg since then, a statement said and added that he developed sudden onset severe chest pain and was treated as Acute Myocardial Infarction and was conservatively managed during the peak of Covid outbreak.
Doctors said, “He had persistent chest pain and he approached us for further expert care. He underwent emergency Coronary Angiogram which showed critical blocks in his heart called as left main with triple vessel disease. Due to the severity of the blocks, angioplasty was not advisable. Considering the critical blocks and despite the trying times of Covid season with all associated limitations, it was decided not to compromise on his care. He underwent a special type of by-pass surgery called as off-pump CABG – Total Arterial Revascularisation
with 5 arterial grafts.”
