Chennai: After recording a decline in fresh cases every day since 21 May, Tamilnadu has reported an increase in daily cases after 69 days.
The state recorded 1,859 fresh cases compared to 1,756 cases on Wednesday. Cases went up marginally in the range of 10 to 30 in some districts. In Chennai, 181 people tested positive, when compared with 164 the previous day. There were 188 cases in Coimbatore.
In Erode, the cases shot up to 166, from 140 on Wednesday, while Thanjavur had 102 cases after its daily tally dipped to 78 the previous day. In Tiruchi, fresh cases rose from 55 to 70.
This increase was reflected in the test positivity rate (TPR) as well, which went up from 0.5 per cent on Monday to 0.6 per cent on Tuesday and 0.7 on Wednesday.
Other than Chennai, 18 districts reported an increase compared to Wednesday. This included Ariyalur, Cuddalore, Erode, Kallakurichi, Kancheepuram, Kanniyakumari, Krishnagiri, Namakkal, Nagapattinam, Ramanathapuram, Salem, Sivaganga, Thanjavur, Coimbatore, Tiruvallur, Tiruvannamalai, Thoothukudi and Tiruchy.
