Indonesia reports 30,738 new Covid cases, 1,604 deaths


Jakarta: The number of Covid-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 30,738 within one day to 3,440,396, with the death toll adding by 1,604 to 95,723 on Sunday.

During the past 24 hours, 39,446 recovered patients were discharged from hospitals, raising the total number of recoveries from the pandemic to 2,809,538, Xinhua news agency reported citing officials.

At present, the Indonesian government is implementing a multi-tiered community activity restriction scheme, known locally as PPKM, aiming to reduce the daily Covid-19 tally.

The curbs were set to end on Monday. So far, the extension of PPKM has not been officially announced by the government.

To date, at least 20.67 million people in the country have received two shots of vaccines, and the number of those who had been injected with the first doses reached 47.47 million, the health ministry reported.

Meanwhile, Russia confirmed 22,804 new coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours, taking the nationwide tally to 6,288,677, the official monitoring and response centre said on Sunday.
The nationwide death toll rose by 789 to 159,352, while the total recoveries increased by 17,271 to 5,625,890, Xinhua news agency reported.

Meanwhile, Moscow, Russia’s worst-hit region, reported 2,484 new cases, taking the city’s total to 1,508,610.

More than 165 million Covid-19 tests have been conducted across the country.

Elsewhere, Pakistan reported 5,026 new Covid-19 cases across the country, the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) said on Sunday.

The NCOC said that the country’s number of overall confirmed cases had risen to 1,034,837, including 941,659 recoveries, Xinhua news agency reported.

The number of active cases has risen to 69,756 who are under treatment across the country, including 3,208 critical patients.

According to the NCOC, the pandemic has killed 62 people on Saturday, increasing the overall death toll to 23,422.

Pakistan’s southern Sindh province is the most affected region of the country with 382,865 infections followed by the eastern Punjab province which has reported 356,920 cases so far.
