Chennai: After registering an upward trend in fresh infections over the last few days, Tamilnadu on Monday recorded a marginal dip with 1,957 people testing positive, pushing the caseload to 25,63,544.
Since 29 July, the State has been witnessing a slight increase in daily infections. Chennai on Monday night reported a slight increase in new cases to 189 (175), but Coimbatore saw a drop to 219 (230). In all the other districts, the number of daily cases was less than 200.
As many as 2,068 people were discharged after treatment. The State recorded 28 deaths, including five in Tiruppur, four in Salem and three each in Chennai, Tiruvallur and Tiruvarur.
A total of 1,45,321 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, pushing thecumulative number of specimens examined to 3,77,50,115 till date, a Health department bulletin said.
As many as 30 districts reported new cases in double digits, while there were no fresh deaths in 26 districts.
