Chennai: The AIADMK on Wednesday staged a walkout from the Assembly, ahead of voting on the resolution against CAA, alleging that the DMK government had disbanded a number of projects implemented by the AIADMK regime.
Even as this move by the main opposition party attracted criticism that it staged walkout only to keep its ally the BJP happy, the AIADMK has denied it.
Leader of the Opposition and former Chief Minister, Edappadi K Palaniswami, said the party wanted to raise the issue of the DMK disbanding a number of schemes launched by the previous government.
AIADMK whip S P Velumani clarified that his party members were not present when a resolution, urging the Union government to repeal the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019, was passed.
He said that the AIADMK members walked out ‘for a different reason’ and that the party would protect the rights of the minorities.
