Channi becomes Punjab CM, urges Centre to withdraw farm laws

Charanjit Singh Channi

New Delhi: Charanjit Singh Channi was sworn in as Punjab’s new Chief Minister today after Amarinder Singh’s dramatic weekend resignation just four months before an election in the State.

The first Dalit Sikh Chief Minister of Punjab took charge with two deputies – Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and Om Prakash Soni. Governor Banwarilal Purohit greeted the new Chief Minister.

Rahul Gandhi attended the oath ceremony. Soon after taking charge as CM, Channi urged the Centre to scrap farm laws.

There will be no vendetta but there will be action of sacrilege as per the law, he said and added: We will give a transparent govt with the same treatment for all.

‘No bill for water motors in villages. No electricity connections of poor households will be disconnected. Their connections will be restored and bills waived off,’ he said.
