Chennai: Active Covid-19 cases in Tamilnadu went up to 16,984 on Monday compared to 16,969 on Sunday.
In the last two weeks, active cases in the State rose by 728 cases from 16,258 on 6 September, when there were 1,556 new cases. The Health department has asked all districts to continue surveillance and targeted testing.
Tamilnadu recorded 1,661 new cases of Covid-19 on Monday, taking the total number of cases in the State to 26,47,041.
On Monday, the highest number of 211 cases were reported in Coimbatore and 205 cases in Chennai. Erode and Chengalpattu recorded 117 and 111 cases respectively. All other districts had less than 100 cases.
In Chennai, 5,47,901 people have been infected so far, 5,37,409 people have been discharged and 8,449 people have died. At present, 2,043 people are under treatment.
