583 grams gold seized at Chennai airport

Chennai: Based on intelligence, a male passenger aged 45 years who arrived from Dubai by Emirates flight EK-542 on Tuesday was intercepted at exit by the Custom officers.

On personal search of the passenger, four bundles of gold in paste form concealed in rectum were recovered.

On extraction one gold ingot of 24K purity weighing 583 grams worth Rs 27.8 lakh was recovered and seized under the Customs Act, 1962. Passenger was arrested.

Further investigation in under progress, according to a press issued by the Pr Commissioner of Customs, Chennai International Airport.
