TN demands pending Rs 5,231 cr subsidy from Centre

Chennai: Tamilnadu Food Minister R Sakkarapani called on Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Piyush Goyal in Delhi on Tuesday over pending dues for various government schemes from the Union government.

‘The Union Minister told the officials concerned to take immediate action and release the funds,’ Sakkarapani told reporters in Delhi.

The Tamilnadu government also demanded that the Union government increase the milling charges fixed for raw rice and parboiled rice, that had not been revised since 2005, to Rs 100/quintal and Rs 60/quintal.

Also, TN insisted the rice sold by the Food Corporation of India to the State government at the market rate be reduced to Rs 15/kg from Rs 20/kg.
