Varun Gandhi reacts to removal from BJP top body

New Delhi: BJP MP Varun Gandhi has brushed off his exclusion from the BJP’s 80-member national executive.

‘I have not attended a single NEC for the last five years. I do not think I was on it,’ he was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

The 41-year-old who was with the party for 17 years had made headlines with his sharply critical tweets about the death of farmers in UP’s Lakhimpur Khiri.

The BJP on Thursday constituted a new national executive committee with 80 members, dropping at least two prominent leaders – Varun Gandhi and former Union minister Chaudhary Birender Singh, both of whom have been critical of the new farm laws.

Apart from the top brass that includes Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the national executive has party veterans L K Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi as members.
