Kindergarten, playschools in TN not to open on November 1

Chennai: Tamilnadu School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi has said physical classes for kindergarten (KG) and play schools will not reopen on 1 November.

Speaking to reporters, he said, ‘We have discussed the issue with the Chief Minister M K Stalin. We have prepared safety measures and standard operating procedures to reopen schools from classes 1 to 8 on 1 November. We do not want to reopen for KG classes.’

He added: ‘Before allowing them to return to physical classes, we have to prepare detailed SOPs. Then we will allow them to reopen.’

Meanwile, in a bid to fill the gaps in learning among students of classes 1 to 8 owing to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on education, the School Education Department on Monday launched ‘lllam Thedi Kalvi’.

A web portal (https://illamthedikalvi.tnschools.gov.in) for the enrolment of volunteers for the initiative was launched by Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi.
