Chennai: New coronavirus cases in Tamilnadu declined to 1,112 on Monday from 1,127 on Sunday, to take the total number of cases in the state to 26,96,328.

Recoveries outnumbered new infections with 1,341 people getting discharged in the last 24 hours, aggregating to 26,47,504 leaving 12,791 active infections, a bulletin said.

Chennai and Coimbatore continued to have the highest number of cases at 144 and 130 respectively.

Chengalpattu logged 95 infections, Erode 69 and Tiruppur 77. Salem (57), Thanjavur (55), Namakkal (48) and Tiruchi (46) were the other districts that had a higher number of cases.

After 1,24,177 people were tested on Sunday, the test positivity rate (TPR) in Tamilnadu remains 0.9 per cent, with Tirupur recording the highest TPR of 1.8 per cent. In Chennai, a TPR of 0.7 per cent was reported.
