Chennai: Four people were killed and several hundreds were moved to relief camps as heavy rain continued to batter parts of Tamilnadu.
As water level reached 118ft of the total120ft in Mettur reservoir, a flood alert was sounded for villages along the Cauvery river in 12 downstream districts. PWD officials have decided to release 30,000 cusecs from the dam once water level reaches 120 ft.
The Tamilnadu government, in an official statement, confirmed that four lives were lost in rain-related incidents in Chennai, Theni and Madurai districts in the past 24 hours. At least 60 houses also suffered damage across the state, the statement added.
Visuals of knee-deep water in many localities in Vyasarpadi, Perambur and Kolathur in north Chennai and Kodambakkam, West Mambalam, and Valasaravakkam in south Chennai dotted social media.
