Couple kills son, ends life in TN due to mounting debts

Thanjavur: A realtor and his wife strangled their 11-year-old son to death and later ended their lives by hanging due to mounting debts at Melaveli village near Thanjavur.

The bodies of Raja (38), a realtor, his wife Kanaga Durga (32) and their son Srivatsan, a Class 6 student, were recovered from their house on Monday after police broke open the door on being alerted by Raja’s brother Vinoth of Pudukottai over the suicide pact.

Vinoth had stated that he had received a voice message from Raja that he is going to end the lives of his family members owing to financial crisis.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Raja incurred huge loss in the real estate business due to Covid-19 pandemic and was unable to repay huge debt.

The bodies were removed to Government Medical College Hospital for post-mortem.

The Kallaperambur police have registered a case of death under suspicious circumstances and are investigating.
