Chennai: A team of officials from Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) conducted an ‘enforcement search and seizure operation’ at a toys shop in Pheonix Mall, Velacheri, on information of suspected violation of Toys (Quality Control ) Order, 2020.
According to an official press release, during the operation, about 630 toys including both electrical and non-electrical such as stuffed toys, drones, legos etc. worth Rs 10 lakh were found to be on sale without BIS standard mark. They were seized.
Toys (Quality Control) Order, 2020 was issued by Central government for promotion of industry and internal trade in the interest of general public to ensure the safety of children mandating that toys covered under certain Indian standards shall bear the standard mark under a licence from the Bureau, it added.
