Chennai: Over one kilogram of heroin worth Rs 7 crore was seized and a citizen of Uganda was arrested in this connection, the Customs department has said.
According to an official release, the passenger by name Judith Twinomwebembezi, aged 29 years was interceptedby Air Intelligence Officers of the Chennai Customs on the basis of passenger profiling.
During personal search of the passenger, 108 capsules were found concealed inside the inner garments worn by the passenger. The capsules contained powder material which upon testing was identified as heroin. The passenger was arrested.
In another incident, based on specific information, Mohammed Aasik hailing from Sundarapandianpttinam of Ramanathpuram district, who reached Chennai from Dubai, was intercepted by the Chennai Customs AIU Officers.
On examination of his person, gold paste concealed in the form of cylindrical rods in the baggage and two gold chains in his pocket were recovered.
In all, gold and electronic goods totally valued at Rs 69.44 lakh were recovered and seized under the Customs Act, 1962. The passenger was arrested, said the release.
