Chennaiites woke up to a bright, hot and sunny day, But by noon, the conditions went upside down. Hour-long heavy rainfall lashed the city drenching its streets. Motorists, as usual, faced the brunt of the situation as traffic came to a blistering halt at almost all key stretches.
“The area is most vulnerable during the North East monsoon. Those living near the lake, river and canal must be cautious as these areas get affected first. Efforts to mitigate chances of flooding of residential areas must be taken as early as possible. People must vacate their houses immediately when authorities ask them to,” he warned.
