PC takes swipe at Modi

In a scathing remark directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former Finance Minister and Congress leader P Chidambaram has labeled him as the “most popular detergent of India,” suggesting that political defectors find themselves “cleaned” upon joining the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Chidambaram made the comment while addressing a public gathering in Sivaganga, where he questioned the prevailing narrative that all BJP MPs and MLAs are inherently clean while those from the opposition are labeled as corrupt.
“Whoever shifts from this side (opposition) gets clean using the Modi detergent. How does this happen?” Chidambaram rhetorically asked, implying that defecting to the BJP somehow absolves individuals of any wrongdoing or allegations of corruption.
The veteran Congress leader further remarked that the “Modi detergent” seemingly has the miraculous ability to cleanse individuals of their “wrongs and sins,” insinuating that political expediency rather than ethical considerations governs such conversions.

Chidambaram’s comments come amidst a backdrop of political maneuvering and high-profile defections between rival parties in India’s political landscape.
