Nagapattinam MP M Selvaraj passes away due to ill-health


In a somber turn of events, Nagapattinam Member of Parliament M Selvaraj breathed his last in the early hours of Monday at a private hospital in Chennai. The 67-year-old MP had been undergoing treatment for kidney-related illnesses, a battle he had bravely fought for some time.

A veteran of the Communist Party of India (CPI), Selvaraj was not only a dedicated public servant but also a farmer and social worker. Hailing from Tiruvarur Chittamalli, he had been elected to the Lok Sabha an impressive four times, marking his presence in the political landscape for decades.

Selvaraj’s parliamentary journey began with his election to the Lok Sabha in 1989, and he continued to serve the people through subsequent terms in 1996, 1998, and most recently in 2019. Despite facing health challenges, his commitment to public service remained unwavering, earning him respect and admiration from colleagues and constituents alike.

The news of Selvaraj’s demise has been met with deep sorrow and condolences from political leaders and citizens across the state. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin expressed his heartfelt condolences, acknowledging Selvaraj’s invaluable contributions to the CPI and the people of the delta districts. CPI state secretary R Mutharasan also joined in mourning the loss, emphasizing the indelible impact Selvaraj had on the political and social fabric of the region.
