EPS condemns murder of party functionary in Salem

Salem, July 5: Leader of the Opposition, Edappadi K. Palaniswami, has strongly condemned the murder of AIADMK party functionary, M. Shanmugam, in Kondalampatti, Salem district. Palaniswami stated that the DMK government has miserably failed to maintain law and order.

M. Shanmugam was brutally beaten to death by unidentified assailants at his residence late on Wednesday night. The attack occurred around 10 PM near Shanmugam’s house. According to Palaniswami, the perpetrators destroyed CCTV cameras in the area and cut off the power supply to the street lights before committing the murder.

“This is a premeditated murder,” said Palaniswami in a statement issued on Thursday. He demanded swift action from the state government to track down the murderers and ensure they face legal consequences. Palaniswami also extended his condolences to the family of the deceased.

Despite repeatedly raising concerns about the deteriorating law and order situation in the state, marked by daily incidents of murders and robberies, Palaniswami criticized the DMK regime for its inaction. He described the current administration as incompetent in addressing the state’s security issues.

In a separate statement, Palaniswami condemned the spurious liquor issue in Villupuram.

The Villupuram incident came weeks after more than 60 people died when they consumed spurious liquor in Kallakurichi district.

According to reports, 118 people have been treated at different hospitals.

There are reports that three people consumed liquor and have been admitted in hospital and one person has died.

According to reports, EPS in his statement said, “CM Stalin, have you not learned any lesson even after seeing Marakkanam and Karunapuram people? How many more people will be lost before your govt wakes up from its sleep?”.
