Euro: England books berth in finals

Dortmund, July 11:  In a thrilling Euro 2024 semi-final clash, England secured a dramatic 2-1 victory over the Netherlands, booking their spot in the tournament final. Ollie Watkins emerged as the hero, netting a decisive goal in second-half stoppage time at Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund, Germany on July 10, 2024.

The match began with Xavi Simons giving the Dutch an early lead with a seventh-minute strike from outside the box. England responded swiftly after Harry Kane was brought down in the penalty area, calmly converting the spot-kick to level the score 1-1.

The game remained tightly contested, with both sides creating chances. Phil Foden nearly put England ahead, only for Denzel Dumfries to clear his shot off the line. In the second half, England’s manager Gareth Southgate made bold substitutions, including bringing on Ollie Watkins and Cole Palmer.

It was Watkins who ultimately made the difference, combining with Palmer in injury time to seal England’s historic victory. Watkins, named Player of the Match, expressed his elation, highlighting his premonition of the winning moment with Palmer.

England, reaching a major tournament final abroad for the first time since 1966, will face Spain at Berlin’s Olympiastadion on July 14, 2024, aiming to clinch their maiden Euro title. Their previous final appearance in 2020 ended in heartbreak with a penalty shootout loss to Italy. This time, buoyed by their semifinal heroics, the Three Lions are determined to rewrite history.
