PMK founder Dr. Ramdoss has condemned the Tamil Nadu government for its inaction regarding the rising number of suicides linked to online gambling, urging the government to take immediate steps to curb the issue.
Ramdoss highlighted the tragic case of Arun Kumar from Silloon Colony, near Tuticorin, who committed suicide after losing money in online gambling. He pointed out that individuals addicted to online gambling often find it impossible to recover, with this case serving as a grim example of the harmful effects of such activities.
He also recalled the efforts of his party, PMK, in protesting against online gambling, which led to two previous attempts to ban it. However, Ramdoss criticized the state government for failing to defend the ban in court, which allowed the gambling platforms to continue, trapping countless families in severe financial distress.
Ramdoss stressed that the only way to put an end to suicides related to online gambling is for the Tamil Nadu government to take action in the Supreme Court and impose a complete ban. He urged the government to act swiftly before more lives are lost, stating that there should be no further delay in implementing a ban on online gambling.
