Tehran, July 24:  Iran Warns It May Leave Nuclear Treaty
Iran has said it might quit the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) if new sanctions are added by European countries.
The NPT was signed in 1970. It helps stop the spread of nuclear weapons. Iran is one of the countries that signed it.
Europe is thinking about bringing back old sanctions using a “snapback” rule. This is part of the 2015 nuclear deal. The rule allows sanctions if Iran does not limit its nuclear work by August.
The 2015 deal had eased sanctions. In return, Iran agreed to limit its nuclear program and allow checks. Iran says its program is for peaceful purposes.
Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi shared this update. He is preparing for a key meeting with Britain, France, and Germany in Istanbul this Friday.
These three countries are still part of the 2015 deal. The United States left the deal when Donald Trump was president.
