The makers of the upcoming film Draupadhi 2 have decided to re-record one of its songs after singer Chinmayi was dropped from the project. Director Mohan G confirmed that the song, which was initially recorded in Chinmayi’s voice, will now be rendered by another singer to avoid unnecessary controversy affecting the film’s release.
Explaining the decision, Mohan G said the team did not want external issues to overshadow the movie. He added that despite efforts to reach Chinmayi, there was no response, prompting the makers to move ahead without delaying post-production.
Draupadhi 2 is a sequel to the controversial 2020 film Draupadhi, which sparked intense public debate for its strong political and social messaging. The second part continues in a similar vein, addressing themes of caste identity, social justice, and perceived societal imbalances, which have become a signature style of the director.
The film stars Richard Rishi in the lead role, with Rakshana Hinduja, Natti Nataraj, and O.J. Mahendran playing pivotal characters. The narrative is expected to be more intense and politically charged than the first part, with the director promising a sharper screenplay and stronger ideological focus.
Music for Draupadhi 2 is composed by Gibran, and the film is being prepared for a multi-language release, targeting a wider audience beyond Tamil Nadu. The makers believe the sequel will resonate strongly with viewers who supported the first installment, while also drawing fresh attention for its bold storytelling.
With post-production nearing completion, the team is expected to announce the film’s release plans soon, amid heightened anticipation and continued public discussion surrounding the project.
