The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has issued a summons to Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay in connection with the Karur stampede incident that occurred on 27 September 2025 during a political event in Veluswamypuram, Karur district. In that tragic incident, 41 people lost their lives and more than 110 were injured in a crowd crush at a rally addressed by Vijay.
The CBI has been conducting a detailed probe into the case after taking over the investigation. Officers have already questioned several TVK leaders and other people connected to the event, including party functionaries such as Bussy Anand, Nirmal Kumar and Aadhav Arjuna, as well as others involved in organising the rally. Evidence such as video footage from cameras on Vijay’s campaign vehicle has been handed over to investigators.
In relation to this ongoing case, Vijay has been summoned to appear before the CBI on 12 January 2026 to provide his statement and cooperate with the inquiry
