A low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal has intensified, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Tuesday, prompting heightened weather alerts for parts of Tamil Nadu and neighbouring coastal regions.
According to the IMD, the system has gained strength due to favourable atmospheric conditions and is likely to move closer to the Tamil Nadu coast in the coming days. This development raises the possibility of increased cloudiness, rain and gusty winds over coastal districts.
The weather department has advised fishermen and those involved in maritime activities to exercise caution and avoid venturing into deep sea areas until conditions stabilise. Coastal communities have also been urged to stay informed about further forecasts and any advisories issued by local authorities.
Residents in low-lying areas are advised to be prepared for possible rainfall and wind gusts, especially later this week as the system approaches. The IMD will continue to monitor the low-pressure area and provide updates on its trajectory and potential impacts.
This weather development comes at a time when farmers and coastal populations are closely watching forecasts to plan their activities in advance.
