Chennai: To commemorate World Refugee Day this year, Nawabzada Mohammed Asif Ali, Dewan to the Prince of Arcot and founder, Arcot Foundation, has partnered with the field office of United Nations HCR, which is headed by Satchithananda Valan Michael, to conduct and host an online quiz event to create awareness on the refugees situation.

According to a press release, the event is being conducted to garner support from the host community/public with hope that it would subsequently result in a meaningful engagement with the refugees, as well as to commemorate the strength, courage, and perseverance of millions of refugees.

The quiz will consist of questions on refugee awareness as well as general knowledge around the globe. The prize money for the event will be Rs 50,000.

The Dewan is an avid quiz master in the city who conducts quiz programmes for students, corporates, clubs, expats, as well as daily online quiz events for the general public, on various topics.

This year, not only have record numbers of people been forced to flee their homes but have also had to undergo the Covid-19 health crisis and ensuing poverty.

Families who have been forced to flee make extraordinary efforts to survive. “In solidarity with them, at a time when there are more and more global crises forcing people from their homes, it is vital we demonstrate that the public stands with refugees in honouring their resilience and determination to keep their families safe and support them in any way we can.”
