Rain fury leads to six-feet high toxic foam on Madurai roads

The northeastern monsoon has led to heavy rains in Tamil Nadu’s Madurai district causing toxic foam to rise from the irrigation canals of Vellakkal and Ayanpappakudi due to the increase in water flow. Commuters faced trouble as toxic foam accumulated in these canals and overflowed onto the roads.
The Northeastern monsoon wreaked havoc in Madurai on Wednesday night increasing water flow in canals and in Vaigai river in the city. The local residents complained that the untreated toxic waste from sewage plants and tanneries was discharged into canals. As a result, a wall of toxic foam was formed in the irrigation canal.
