Bengaluru Court to hand over Jaya’s assets to TN govt

After nearly a decade of legal proceedings, the final steps to sell the assets of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa have commenced in Bengaluru. This initiative aims to mobilize the Rs 100 crore fine imposed on her following her conviction in a corruption case, a landmark moment in the legal saga surrounding the late politician.
The 36th City Civil Court in Bengaluru has announced its decision to hand over 27 kilograms of gold and diamond jewelry belonging to Jayalalithaa to the Home Secretary of Tamil Nadu on March 6 and 7.
Of the total jewelry, 20 kilograms will be sold or auctioned to generate funds for payment of the fine, while the remaining 7 kilograms have been exempted as they are deemed to have been inherited from her mother. This decision underscores the meticulous approach taken by the court in ensuring a fair and transparent process for the disposal of assets.
In addition to the jewelry, Canfin Homes Limited, where Jayalalithaa held an account, has also contributed to the process by handing over Rs 59 lakh to the special court in Bengaluru.
The initiation of this process comes over seven years after Jayalalithaa’s demise, signaling the culmination of a lengthy legal battle that has spanned multiple years and involved complex legal proceedings.
