TN govt takes swift action following tragic Kuwait fire


In response to the tragic fire accident in Mangaf, Kuwait, which claimed the lives of seven Tamil Nadu natives, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has announced immediate measures to support the affected families and repatriate the deceased. The Tamil Nadu government is working closely with the Indian embassy and Tamil associations in Kuwait to ensure the swift return of the mortal remains of the victims.
In a statement issued late Thursday, Chief Minister Stalin expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Veerasamy Mariappan from Thoothukudi, Ebamason Raja from Trichy, Krishnamurthy Chinnadurai from Cuddalore, Govindan Sivasankar from Chennai, Richard Roy from Thanjavur, Karuppannan Ramu from Ramnad, and Mohammed Sheriff from Villupuram. These individuals perished in a devastating fire that swept through a workers’ settlement at Al-Mangaf on June 12.
Stalin highlighted that the Department of Welfare of Non-Resident Tamils has been instructed to expedite efforts, in collaboration with the Indian embassy and local Tamil associations in Kuwait, to bring the bodies back to Tamil Nadu. A special flight is being arranged to facilitate the prompt repatriation of the remains, ensuring they are returned to their families as quickly as possible.
In a compassionate gesture, the Chief Minister announced a financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh for each of the bereaved families. This support aims to alleviate some of the immediate burdens faced by the families during this tragic time.
The Department of Overseas Tamils Welfare is also working tirelessly to assist those injured in the incident. In coordination with the Indian embassy, the department is providing necessary aid to ensure the swift recovery of the injured individuals currently receiving treatment in Kuwait.
