Salem, June 30, 2024 — The term of Salem Periyar University Vice-Chancellor Jaganathan has been extended.
Originally set to conclude today, Jaganathan’s tenure has been extended until May 19, 2025. The extension order was handed to him by Governor Ravi at the Governor’s residence yesterday.
This extension comes amid remarks by Higher Education Minister Ponmudi in the Legislative Assembly, who stated, “We will take appropriate action to ensure he does not receive an extension.” Despite these comments, Governor Ravi has proceeded to extend Jaganathan’s term.
