The Greater Chennai Corporation has carried out a large-scale cleanliness अभियान across the city, covering all 1,373 bus shelters, as part of its continued focus on improving public hygiene and urban infrastructure.According to officials, the civic body is strengthening its solid waste management system, with nearly 6,300 metric tonnes of garbage being cleared every day. In addition, about 1,000 metric tonnes of construction and demolition debris are removed daily from different parts of the city.
As part of routine special sanitation programmes, the Corporation regularly undertakes intensive cleaning at public places such as bus stops, roads, bridges, parks, burial grounds and other common areas. Continuing these efforts, a focused cleanliness drive was carried out yesterday between 6 am and 8 am at bus shelters across Zones 1 to 15.
The operation involved clearing encroachments, removing posters and wall advertisements, cutting overgrown shrubs, removing accumulated garbage, and washing the shelters and surrounding areas using water sprinklers.
Senior officials were assigned to supervise the work to ensure proper execution. The Corporation said similar cleanliness drives will be conducted at regular intervals to maintain public spaces and enhance the travel experience for commuters across Chennai.
