Actor-turned-politician Vijay, president of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), broadened his party’s political base on Monday by inducting over 50 new members from across different political backgrounds, including Mayuri, the granddaughter of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Kamaraj. The induction event held in Chennai brought in leaders previously associated with various parties, reflecting TVK’s aim to attract figures from a wide political spectrum ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. Other notable entrants included Catherine, the daughter of former Union Minister Dalit Ezhilmalai, and Rajmohan, linked earlier to the O Panneerselvam faction.
TVK sources said many of the newcomers will be given roles in the party’s women’s and youth wings, expanding its organisational reach. Leaders from rival parties, including former DMK and AIADMK members at district and local levels, also joined Vijay’s ranks.
The move is seen as part of TVK’s strategy to strengthen its regional presence and appeal to a broader electorate by bringing in leaders with local influence and public recognition.
