Premalatha Vijayakanth, General Secretary of the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK), has expressed optimism about her party’s role in the upcoming 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, stating that calls for participation in governance are growing and there is a real possibility of being part of government.Speaking to reporters, Premalatha said the election is expected to be a “different” contest and that voters want effective governance. She noted that many people are expressing a desire for a change and for parties other than the ruling front to share power. “The voice for participation in governance is resonating, and there is a strong possibility for that,” she said, underlining her party’s aspirations.
Premalatha also highlighted that definitive plans on alliances and election strategy will become clear as political discussions progress, and that public expectations will guide decisions on partnerships.
Her remarks come at a time when political parties across Tamil Nadu are gearing up their campaigns and alliances ahead of the state polls, with voters closely watching possible shifts in alliances and leadership dynamics.
