The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is intensifying preparations for the first uncrewed mission under its ambitious Gaganyaan human spaceflight programme, the agency’s Chairman V. Narayanan has said.
This uncrewed flight is a key milestone on the path toward launching Indian astronauts into space by 2027.
Addressing reporters, Narayanan confirmed that the Gaganyaan project includes a series of three uncrewed missions designed to thoroughly test the spacecraft and launch systems before any crewed flight is attempted. The primary objective of these missions is to validate critical systems and ensure safety for future astronauts.
“We are working towards the first uncrewed mission. There are many tests happening. The safety of the Gaganyatri is extremely important, so we have to be very careful and qualify every system,” the ISRO chairman said, underlining the meticulous preparation underway.
