The Indian Railways has announced a series of operational changes affecting several long-distance trains in view of redevelopment and modernisation works at Chennai Egmore Railway Station. The works are scheduled to be carried out from February 3 to April 4, during which multiple trains will be short-terminated, originate from alternate stations, or be diverted.
As part of the arrangements, certain trains will terminate at Tambaram Railway Station instead of Chennai Egmore between February 3 and April 5. These include the Uzhavan Express (Train No. 16866) operating from Thanjavur and the Ananthapuri Superfast Express (Train No. 20636) running from Kollam.
Similarly, several services will originate from Tambaram instead of Chennai Egmore during the period from February 4 to April 6. The affected trains are the Uzhavan Express (Train No. 16865), scheduled to depart at 11.00 pm, the Ananthapuri Superfast Express (Train No. 20635) departing at 8.20 pm, and the Rameswaram Express (Train No. 16751), which will depart at 9.05 pm.
In addition, the Chennai Egmore–Mumbai Superfast Express (Train No. 22158) will depart from Chennai Beach Railway Station at 6.50 pm instead of Chennai Egmore from February 4 to April 4.
The Railways have also announced a route diversion for the Ahmedabad–Tiruchirappalli Weekly Special Train (Train Nos. 09419/09420) from February 5 to April 2. During this period, the train will not serve Arakkonam, Perambur, Chennai Egmore, and Tambaram stations. Instead, it will operate via Renigunta, Arakkonam North, Melpakkam, Katpadi, Vellore, and Villupuram.
Railway authorities have advised passengers to check train schedules and boarding stations in advance to avoid inconvenience during the modernisation period.
