Chennai sabhas gear up for Margazhi season

It is that time of the year, when music is in the air. With the Margazhi season all set to commence, the sabhas in the neighbourhood are gearing up to stage various kinds of concerts.Ā  Here is a brief round-up.

Sri Thyaga Brahma Gana Sabha, GN Chetty Road, will inaugurate its 39th Isai, Iyal, Nataka Vizha on 9 December in its premises.

A press release said, Swami Omkarananda will inaugurate the month-long event and honour musicians in various fields. The sabha can be reached at 2815 2166.

Similarly, Yagnaraman Centre for Performing Arts and Sri Krishna Gana Sabha, Maharajapuram Santhanam Salai, will inaugurate its 63rd Margazhi Mela on 13 December in the sabha premises.
A press release said, Asian Paints Ltd, independent director, R Seshasayee, will inaugurate the mela and confer awards to musicians. For details, contact 2814 0806.

Likewise, Bharat Kalachar’s 32nd Margazhi Mahotsav will begin on 8 December in its premises situated at Thirumalai Road (contact 2834 3045), while Chennai Cultural Academy Trust’s 51st Fine Arts festival is to start on 14 December at Rama Rao Kalyana Mandapam, Habibullah Road (contact 98400 74538) and Mudhra’s 24th Fine Arts festival will be inaugurated on 8 December at Infosys Hall, Krishna Street (contact 98400 72821).
