Chennai: Several crucial issues were discussed during the two-hour long Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami at the Secretariat here today. This is the second meeting of the Cabinet this year.
Sources said that the measures taken to tackle coronavirus was the one of the issues discussed during the meeting. Apart from this, there were discussions about the preparation of the Budget which will be presented in the State Assembly in March.
”Since this is expected to be the full final budget of the present government before the 2021 Assembly elections, new announcements to be made were also discussed during the meeting,” sources added.
Discussions were held about the granting of permission to various industries to start business in the State. ”Conducting the local body polls for the urban areas. Other key issues like the recently announced Union Budget, financial constraints, execution of the projects and the status of the ongoing schemes were discussed,” sources added.
The sources furthers said apart from granting permissions to new projects, the present status of already sanctioned projects were discussed during the meeting.
”The various aspects of the Union Budget and the benefits that Tamilnadu can gain from it were also taken up for discussion,” sources added.
Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, Ministers and top officials took part in the meeting. It may be noted that during the first Cabinet meeting held in January, clearances were granted for more than half-a-dozen industrial projects.
