Chennai: Around 24,000 rapid testing kits have reached Chennai today. This has come as relief to health officials as they can arrest the spread of coronavirus more efficiently and effectively by testing more suspected persons.
Sources said the test kits would be used for screening close contacts of people who tested positive for the infection. Also, people with symptoms for flu can also get tested. With rapid test kits, the results can be known in 30 minutes.
When the State had a surge in number of positive cases, the government had ordered for four lakhs kits. It is arriving in batches. Health officials said the kits are of good quality and checked by an expert committee.
They will be identifying hotspots and increase the the testing in these areas. As of now, at designated hospitals, those coming with any kind of health concerns are being tested.
If the testing increases, more cases can be found and patients can be treated at the earliest.
