Dubai: Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Shreyas Iyer said that Mumbai Indians (MI) on Sunday outplayed them in all departments following his team’s 5-wicket defeat to the four-time champions at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium.
MI chased down a target of 163 with relative ease after restricting DC to 162/4.
Overall, they outplayed us in all the departments. We need to work on our mindsets before the next game, said Shreyas after the match.
Definitely, I would say 10-15 short, 170-175 on the board would have looked completely different. We really missed out when (Marcus) Stoinis got out, he was hitting the ball really well and also seeing the ball like a football, that was the main error that we did and something that we really need to work on. Apart from that the effort we put on the field, we could definitely work on that as there were a few misfields and dropped catches as well.
DC were without explosive wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant. Shreyas said that Pant could be out for the week, which puts him in doubt for their next match against Rajasthan Royals.
Mumbai skipper Rohit Sharma said that being top of the table gives the team confidence on the way they are approaching their matches.
Means a lot (to be top of the table). The kind of cricket we are playing, gives us a lot of confidence. It’s important to have momentum with us, and it was a perfect day for us, getting those crucial two points, said Rohit in the post-match presentation ceremony.
“We were clinical with the bat, but not so much towards the end. We need one set batsman to finish off the game in general, and some set batsmen got out today. That is something we need to tighten up,” he said.
But again, I don’t want to go too much into it because I think they batted really well. Chasing has not been so great in this tournament so looking at what we have done with the bat in the second half gives us that confidence we can chase any score.
This was MI’s fourth consecutive win and they next face Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday.
