
Chennai: The Tamilnadu government on Wednesday announced that half yearly exams for students in government and government-aided schools, usually held this month, has been cancelled as schools were not re-opened due to Covid-19 pandemic.
Talking to reporters, School Education Minister K A Sengottaiyan said private schools could conduct the exams online, if needed.
Stating that syllabus for classes upto 12th standard has been reduced after getting the approval of Chief Minister Edappadi
K Palaniswami in view of the Covid-19 pandemic, he said 50 per cent of the prescribed syllabus will be taught for students up to class nine and 65 per cent syllabus for students from classes 10 to 12 this academic year.
“Since students from classes 10 to 12 have to compete with students from other States, 65 per cent syllabus will be taught for them,” he said.
Asked about the possibility of reopening the schools from next year after new year, Sengaottaiyan said a decision in this regard would be taken by the Chief Minister after holding consultations with educationists, parents and students.
