Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the third edition of the Voice of Global South Summit (VOGSS), emphasizing the critical importance of unity among developing nations in addressing shared global challenges. The virtual summit, held under the theme “An Empowered Global South for a Sustainable Future,” seeks to provide a platform for countries from the Global South to deliberate on common priorities and devise collective solutions.In his opening remarks, Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s unwavering commitment to the Global South. “India has always stood by the Global South, and this summit is an extension of our commitment to inclusive development,” he stated, setting the tone for the discussions. The Prime Minister highlighted the necessity of collective action on pressing global issues such as terrorism, extremism, climate change, and food and energy security—issues that disproportionately impact developing nations.
The summit, deeply rooted in the ancient Indian philosophy of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ (the world is one family), is also aligned with PM Modi’s vision of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas aur Sabka Prayas’ (together with all, development for all, trust of all, and efforts by all). This vision underscores India’s holistic approach to global development, prioritizing inclusive and sustainable growth.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has highlighted that the summit will focus on addressing complex global challenges that particularly affect developing countries. The VOGSS aims to strengthen the voice of these nations in global discourse and decision-making processes, ensuring that their concerns and aspirations are adequately represented on the world stage.
